Prayon is investing in two new facilities to consolidate its position on the food market

Engis, April 2011

The Prayon Group, world leader in the production of phosphates, announces completion of investments totalling €4.8 million in developing two new processes to strengthen the position of its flagship products in the food sector.

Prayon announces installation of new process technology at its production site in Les Roches de Condrieu, France. The facility allows agglomeration of select high performance KasomelTM and CarfoselTM products to better meet clients' expectations while increasing production capacities.  The agglomerated products are free-flowing, easy to handle, and highly soluble.

Prayon also announces installation of a state of the art blending process in its Engis, Belgium facility that allows integrated production of CarfoselTM products, which are made by mixing two or more phosphates.  This investment increases production capacities through introduction of a continuous production process that also enhances product consistency and performance.

"These investments will help us to fulfil the most specific wishes of our most exacting clients by offering top-quality products and providing innovative, economical solutions," explains Valérie Renard, Sales and Marketing Director. "We have invested in the most high-tech equipment available with a view to enhancing food chain safety, with important results including the limitation of fine particle formation."

The new facilities are both currently operational and enable Prayon to consolidate its strategic position on the processed cheese market (KasomelTM) and the market for meat, fish and seafood (CarfoselTM) while anticipating the markets' latest demands.

Both investments follow the major investment in a new cogeneration facility at Prayon's Engis site that will significantly reduce the site's environmental footprint and provide a large portion of the site's energy requirements.  The cogeneration investment is consistent with Prayon's commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint.  It has been in operation since late 2010.

About Prayon

With more than a century of industrial experience, the Belgium-based Prayon Group is a world leader in phosphate chemistry.

The Prayon Group is owned jointly by the Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) and the Wallonia Regional Investment Company (SRIW), which have equal stakes in it. The Group is made up of some twenty companies and is represented in more than ten countries spanning across four continents.

Prayon manufactures and markets an extensive range of purified phosphoric acids, phosphate salts and fluorine products from our sites throughout the world. The general public is not usually familiar with Prayon products, which are chiefly used as primary materials in the manufacture of end products. They are used in food (including baked goods, meat, processed cheese, fish and seafood, cereals, fruit and vegetables), drinks, pharmaceutical products (including toothpaste, oral hygiene products and excipients) and a range of industrial applications (for paper, ceramics, glass, metal, and so on).

Prayon is at the forefront of innovation in our areas of activity. The Prayon wet processes for phosphoric acid production are marketed throughout the world and are used to produce over 60% of the world's merchant grade phosphoric acid.
