PURIFIED PHOSPHORIC ACID
As Europe's leading producer of purified phosphoric acid, we produce and sell different qualities and concentrations of phosphoric acid for a wide range of industrial (cleaning, treatment of metals, water treatment and so on), food, and pharmaceutical applications (drinks, fats and oils, pet food, yeasts, etc.).
Phosphoric acid is the basic raw material used in the manufacture of phosphates (or phosphate salts). Phosphoric acid is a mineral acid and is made by treating phosphate ore or phosphorus combustion. Its chemical formula is H3PO4.
Marketed under the brand name Prayphos, our purified phosphoric acid is available in concentrations ranging from 59% to 85% (expressed as H3PO4), and in technical, food (used mainly in cola drinks) and Codex grades.
Phosphoric acid's distinctive properties include :
- stability in the presence of most organic compounds;
- low volatility;
- pleasant slightly bitter flavor when used in low concentrations;
- dispersion in alcohol and hot water.
SPECIAL SALTS
Our range of food phosphates is divided into single phosphates (sold under the name Prayphos) and specialty products (Kasomel, Carfosel, Praylev) intended for specific industries. The Carfosel range is used in the meat and fish industries, while the Kasomel products are intended for the process cheese sector and the Praylev products for the baking sector. Single phosphates are sodium, potassium or calcium salts derived from phosphoric acid.
Depending on their degree of condensation or polymerization, they are usually classified as follows :
- Orthophosphates are renowned for their buffer capacity and can maintain very precise pH values. As such, they can be used to optimize the overall bulk of proteins and therefore the texture of many end products.
- Pyrophosphates are highly effective ion sequestrants (small metal ions), which makes them valuable aids for all applications in which such ions promote undesirable biochemical reactions. For instance, they are effective in retarding oil and fat rancidification and prevent cut potatoes from oxidizing.
- Tripolyphosphates and polyphosphates are powerful sequestrants of larger ions such as calcium and magnesium, and enable the mineral content of proteins to be regulated, and therefore their ability of emulsify, raise and precipitate. Polyphosphates are renowned for their ability to slow down the development of micro-organisms and improve the shelf life of many products.
