PURIFIED PHOSPHORIC ACID
As Europe's leading producer of purified phosphoric acid, we produce and sell different qualities and concentrations of phosphoric acid (*) for a wide range of industrial (cleaning, treatment of metals, water treatment and so on), food, and pharmaceutical applications (drinks, fats and oils, pet food, yeasts, etc.).
(*) Phosphoric acid is the basic raw material used in the manufacture of phosphates (or phosphate salts). Phosphoric acid is a mineral acid and is made by treating phosphate ore or phosphorus combustion. Its chemical formula is H3PO4.
Marketed under the brand name Prayphos, our purified phosphoric acid is available in concentrations ranging from 59% to 85% (expressed as H3PO4), and in technical, food (used mainly in cola drinks) and Codex grades.
Phosphoric acid's distinctive properties include :
- stability in the presence of most organic compounds
- low volatility
- pleasant, bitter flavour when used in low concentrations
- dispersion in alcohol and hot water.
AMMONIUM AND POTASSIUM SALTS
Our ammonium phosphates (MAP, DAP) set the quality benchmark in this field. They are recognized for their high level of purity and their complete solubility.
Manufactured at our plant in Engis, Belgium (capacity: 60,000 tonnes), our ammonium phosphates are exported worldwide, particularly to Europe and North America.
Monoammonium phosphate (MAP) is used in fertirrigation, ceramics and enamels, various fireproofing applications, first extinguisher powders and fermentation processes.
Diammonium phosphate (DAP) meets the requirements of the International Oenological Codex and is also used as a fermenting agent, fireproofing agent and in fertirrigation.
FLUORINE DERIVATIVES
For many years, we have been developing a wide range of inorganic fluorides:
- sodium fluoride (NaF);
- sodium fluosilicate (SSF);
- potassium fluosilicate (PSF).
With a total capacity of over 30,000 tonnes, we are by far Europe's leading manufacturer of this range of products.
Sodium fluoride (NaF) occurs in the form of a white crystalline powder, and can be used in applications such as water treatment, fluorine supplements (dental products), treatment of vitreous glazes, and more.
In their solid form, sodium (SSF) and potassium (PSF) fluosilicates are used in fluoridation of drinking water, the manufacture of latex (as a coagulant), as opacifying agents for vitreous glazes, for opalescent glass, and in other applications.
SODIUM TRIPOLYPHOSPHATE

Over the past few years, we have developed over 20 grades of sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP).
This product range is specifically adapted for use in a wide variety of industrial applications such as cleaning (washing-up, laundry and I&I), treatment of metals, water treatment, ceramic, paper, glass, and more.
STPPs in "powder" and "light granule" form are manufactured in spraydriers, while "heavy granule" STPPs are produced in rotary kilns.
Some of the grades developed by our R&D department (such as Polypray H or Prayphos LV STPPs) are completely new and are highly sought-after in the cleaning industry.
SPECIAL SALTS, SODIUM, POTASSIUM, CALCIUM AND ALUMINUM PHOSPHATES
We have developed and currently sell a wide range of special phosphates designed specifically for use in various industrial applications such as cleaning (washing-up, laundry and I&I), treatment of metals, water treatment, ceramics, porcelain, paper, paints, glass fiber, glass, antifreeze agents , polystyrene, and more.
In addition to the ion linked to P (phosphorus), the major characteristics of our phosphates are the pH and the length of the chain, giving it the following properties :
- Buffer agent (orthophosphates)
- Sequestrant (pyrophosphates, tripolyphosphates, polyphosphates)
- Dispersing agent (polyphosphates)
- Water retention agent (pyrophosphates and tripolyphosphates).
Our range includes mainly sodium phosphates and potassium phosphates (also known as alkaline phosphates) as well as orthophosphates, pyrophosphates, tripolyphosphates and polyphosphates. These are salts of phosphoric acid, which are polymerized to a greater or lesser extent, (phosphate chain from 1 to n atom(s)). These may be acidic, neutral or alkaline.
Our range also includes calcium phosphates and aluminum phosphates.
CALCIUM SULFATE
Calcium sulfate is produced during the manufacture of phosphoric acid by attacking phosphate rock with sulfuric acid.
By optimizing our manufacturing processes and carefully choosing raw materials, our calcium sulfate can be used in the following applications :
- the construction industry (plaster and cement). Our phosphoric acid manufacturing plant in Engis, Belgium is the only phosphoric acid plant in the world producing calcium sulfate that is pure enough for use in the plaster industry (floor gypsum, manufacture of boards, blocks and tiles, self-leveling coating, etc.). Its whiteness particularly fits it for floor gypsum.
In the cement industry, calcium sulfate is used as a "retarder". Most of the calcium sulfate produced as a result of the manufacture of phosphoric acid is sold in the construction sector. - the fertilizer industry. Some crops require calcium sulfate to make up for the lack of sulfur in certain types of soils. The presence of sulfate in nitrate fertilizers also speeds up the nitrate manuring process.
Other groundbreaking projects (for the paper and sugar industries for example, and for mineral cat litter) are also under consideration or are being developed with a view to finding new openings.
SULFURIC ACID
Sulfuric acid is manufactured using sulfur element (99.9% purity) which guarantees a high-purity acid suited to the various fields of application.
Sulfuric acid is sold in 2 separate forms :
- concentrated acid: 66°Bé-95-99% H2SO4
- diluted acid: all forms between 20 and 94% H2SO4
Sulfuric acid is used in the following industries:
- chemicals: pH control, etc.
- metals: stripping, sulfate electrogalvanizing
- automotive: batteries etc.
- paper: production of chlorine dioxide etc.
- food: pH control of beet juice (sugar production), wastewater, etc.
