Mindful of our role in maintaining the quality of our environment, we take all possible steps to ensure that every day our activities impact a little less on the environment. We have also obtained ISO 14001 certification for our environmental management system.

We limit the impact our production sites have on the quality of surface water by:

monitoring the quality of our surface water waste

• all the waste we produce is monitored using automatic sampling;
• analysts notify our control rooms in real time of the quality of these effluent; This information is used as a basis for our system of ongoing improvement;
• alarms alert our operators immediately of any malfunction;
• improving our manufacturing processes so as to reduce the amount of waste we produce, and consequently, the impact of our activities on surface water.

• We also limit the impact of our activities on air quality by means of four additional measures:
  • improving our processes in order to reduce their impact on air quality (dust, odours etc.);
  • monitoring ambient air quality in the vicinity of our installations via a network of permanently operational monitoring appliances;
  • monitoring emissions from our chimneys via ongoing measures and alarm systems;
  • reaffirming our commitment to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (Kyoto) via, amongst others, reducing CO2 emissions and moving to more environmentally friendly energy sources, e.g. natural gas.
• We are also working to limit the impact our activities have on the quality of soils and sub-soils. We are taking several steps in this area:

Various studies have been conducted to analyse the quality of soils and sub-soils and to react accordingly.
Within the context of our policy of prevention in terms of safety and the environment, we have introduced or are in the process of introducing several measures involving containment vessels designed primarily to prevent substances penetrating the soil, sub-soil or surface water in the event of a leak from one of our storage tanks.
