CALCIUM SULPHATE

Calcium sulphate is produced during the manufacture of phosphoric acid by attacking phosphate rock with sulphuric acid.

By optimising our manufacturing processes and carefully choosing raw materials, our calcium sulphate can be used in the following applications:

The construction industry (plaster and cement )

Our phosphoric acid manufacturing plant in Engis, Belgium is the only phosphoric acid plant in the world producing calcium sulphate that is pure enough for use in the plaster industry (floor gypsum, manufacture of boards, blocks and tiles,self-levelling coating, etc.). Its whiteness particularly fits for floor gypsum.

In the cement industry, calcium sulphate is used as a 'retarder'.

Most of the calcium sulphate produced as a result the manufacture of phosphoric acid is sold in the construction sector.

The fertiliser industry

Some crops require calcium sulphate to make up for the lack of sulphur in certain types of soils. The presence of sulphate in nitrate fertilisers also speeds up the nitrate manuring process.

Other groundbreaking projects (for the paper and sugar industries for example and for mineral cat litter) are also under consideration or are being developed with a view to finding new openings.
