The Electrical Engineer, is part of the Technical Services department at Prayon. They are responsible for troubleshooting electrical, instrumentation and process control equipment used in the plant and help guide the department on issue resolution. This position works with Engineering, Production Planning, Operations and/or external contractors (as needed) to plan, schedule and lead electrical equipment and process modifications. In addition, the EE leads material procurement for electrical project related work. The Electrical Engineer is proficient in electrical fabrication and installation standards including NEC, NFPA-70E and Prayon electrical maintenance design and construct standard practices. They demonstrate excellent teamwork, decision-making and communication skills.

Essential Responsibilities & Functions

include the following, others may be assigned.

  • Plan, develop, maintain, and implement the various process and control systems required by manufacturing. This includes review of the current methods for optimization along with developing new methods for cost effective production.
  • Troubleshoot existing systems and resolve issues as needed.
  • Provide management with recommendations for new systems and methods by staying abreast of hardware and software changes that impact our manufacturing processes. This includes maintaining a 3-5 year plan for management review and consideration.
  • Oversee the implementation of system modifications and/or new system installations by providing detailed scope, budget information and project management if needed.
  • Provide electrical engineering technical service and control programming as needed to support the general infrastructure, electrical service distribution and manufacturing process.
  • Provide training and documentation for the various manufacturing systems as needed.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Develops electrical, instrumentation and process controls products by studying requirements; researching and testing manufacturing methods and materials; soliciting observations from operators and other knowledgeable individuals.
  • Develops project objectives by developing project proposals and plans; conferring with site management and corporate engineering group; establishing, maintaining, and operating within an annual capital project plan and budget.
  • Determines/confirms project specifications by studying product design, requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
  • Determines/controls/monitors project plan and project schedule by reviewing design, specifications, costs, plan and schedule requirements/changes, and administering contracts with contractors, resolving problems.
  • Supports maintenance efforts as required to assure reliable and correct operation of equipment.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Trains others in areas of proficiency or expertise.
  • Understands and follows all organizational policies, procedures and rules, ensuring that all laws are obeyed, and equal employment, safety and environmental protection are practiced.
  • Must be able to work more than eight hours per day or forty hours per week on any shift or travel as needed. Must be available for call-in as needed to support 24-hour/7 day per week operational requirements.
  • Consistently demonstrates prompt, regular, and reliable attendance.
  • Communicates development and career goals to immediate supervisor and takes ownership of personal development plan.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities & Functions

This is a non-supervisory position.

Direct Report Job Titles:

  • No direct reports. Individual works closely with Technical Services Manager to determine work priorities for multi-discipline designers and contractors.

Minimum

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience: Three (3) or more years electrical engineering experience in power distribution, instrumentation, and/or controls.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Experience with DCS and PLC programming and hardware. Familiar with Low/Medium Voltage electrical equipment design.

Preferred

  • Education: Certificate or Masters in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Project Management is a plus.
  • Experience: Experience in a chemical plant or similar manufacturing setting with demonstrated skills and results in the areas of project management (small-$25k to large-$1M capital projects), troubleshooting, problem-solving, and system/process improvement.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Experience with bulk material handling equipment, centrifugal pumps, HVAC, and/or environmental equipment. Professional engineering certification (PE).

Language Skills

Reading/comprehension, speaking and writing at required education equivalency level. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business correspondence, technical/product information, policies/procedures or government regulations. Ability to complete written forms and write routine to complex procedures, reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in a group or individual setting. Good interpersonal and communication skills are crucial to success in position.

Mathematical Skills

Ability must be consistent with required educational equivalency level.

Computer Skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and other Office 365 applications.

Proficient in AutoCAD or similar designing software;

SAP software, Aspen Technologies, Envox Workstation-Provox, Delta V Control Studio Configuration, Rockwell Automation PLC is considered a plus.

Complexity

The work includes varied duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods be applied to a broad range of activities and/or substantial depth of analysis within a particular area. Decisions include areas of uncertainty in approach, methodology, interpretation or evaluation resulting from such elements as continuing changes, technical developments, unknown phenomena or conflicting requirements. The work requires originating new techniques, establishing criteria, or developing new information. The work requires a strong results orientation and outstanding ability to establish priorities, communicate needs, negotiate collaboration among stakeholders, and execute project plans to timeline.

Physical Demands

The work requires both sedentary and physical exertion to include sitting; walking; standing; bending; traversing of stairs and climbing ladders repetitively when required, carrying of light items such as papers, books or small parts, etc. Work routinely requires speaking and hearing (expression or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words and perceiving sounds by ear).

Work Environment

The work environment requires normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, personal or commercial transportation methods. Requires use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work environment also includes outside work and work in the production areas which may be hot or cold, and work that requires special safety precautions such as working around moving parts, machinery in operation or working with irritant or hazardous chemicals. Employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as respirators, masks, gowns, coats, safety shoes, boots, goggles, gloves, safety glasses or shields, and noise protection.
