Engis, 19 May 2011
On Saturday, 21 May 2011, Prayon is set to open the doors of its production site in Puurs (near Antwerp) to the public. Visitors will be able to see what goes on at the site and learn about job opportunities.
As world leader in phosphates, Prayon produces an extensive range of phosphate and fluorine products. Although little is known about these products in the public domain, they are in fact essential components in a vast array of day-to-day commodities like toothpaste, food and fertilisers.
With more than a century of experience in the industry, Prayon has based its strategy around innovation and has recently targeted new sectors such as nutrition, water treatment and batteries for electric cars. These new activities call for new skills, and Prayon is constantly on the lookout for fresh talent to help it overcome the challenges ahead.
In connection with the International Year of Chemistry, Prayon has taken the unprecedented step of opening the doors to its production plants, enabling visitors to see the employees and processes at the heart of the company's unique know-how.
"Prayon offers all the benefits of an international group while maintaining strong local links", explains Eric Op 't Eynde, Manager of Prayon Puurs. Prayon is investing in two new facilities to consolidate its position on the food market (01/04/2011)
Engis, April 2011
The Prayon Group, world leader in the production of phosphates, announces completion of investments totalling €4.8 million in developing two new processes to strengthen the position of its flagship products in the food sector.
Prayon announces installation of new process technology at its production site in Les Roches de Condrieu, France. The facility allows agglomeration of select high performance KasomelTM and CarfoselTM products to better meet clients' expectations while increasing production capacities. The agglomerated products are free-flowing, easy to handle, and highly soluble.
Prayon also announces installation of a state of the art blending process in its Engis, Belgium facility that allows integrated production of CarfoselTM products, which are made by mixing two or more phosphates. This investment increases production capacities through introduction of a continuous production process that also enhances product consistency and performance.
"These investments will help us to fulfil the most specific wishes of our most exacting clients by offering top-quality products and providing innovative, economical solutions," explains Valérie Renard, Sales and Marketing Director. "We have invested in the most high-tech equipment available with a view to enhancing food chain safety, with important results including the limitation of fine particle formation."
The new facilities are both currently operational and enable Prayon to consolidate its strategic position on the processed cheese market (KasomelTM) and the market for meat, fish and seafood (CarfoselTM) while anticipating the markets' latest demands.
Both investments follow the major investment in a new cogeneration facility at Prayon's Engis site that will significantly reduce the site's environmental footprint and provide a large portion of the site's energy requirements. The cogeneration investment is consistent with Prayon's commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint. It has been in operation since late 2010.

Bioethanol research project selected by GreenWin (28/02/2011)
Prayon's PHOSBIOL2 research project has been selected by GreenWin, the Walloon Region's sixth centre of excellence. The project aims to develop a second-generation bioethanol manufacturing process based on fresh biomass or biomass from waste (for instance, grass intended for composting). So far, bioethanol – a substitute for petrol – has been produced from foodstuffs. The process will use a special grade of phosphoric acid, one of Prayon's flagship products.
